Our Story

New Eleusis began as a small allotment project and has since bloomed into an aspiring social enterprise working, ultimately, to reunite the human being with their rightful place in nature. The inspiration behind our name can be traced to Eleusis, a small municipality in Greece, which at one time, held magnificent religious festivals in honour of the goddess Demeter, a representative of growth, harvest and fertility.

Prof. Albert Hofmann, the famous chemist and mystic, states:

Eleusis can be our model. Eleusis-like centres could unite and strengthen the many spiritual currents of our time, all of which share the same goal, the goal of creating, by transformation of the consciousness of individual people, a better world without war, without environmental destruction, a world of happy people.

It is very difficult to overlook this claim or to deny its possibilities for the future of humanity, and we believe that translating these ancient values into the contemporary living environment will help towards such an achievement.

Taking Eleusis as 'our model', we aim to be one such 'Eleusis-like centre', uniting and strengthening "the many spiritual currents of our time" through a recognition of their kinship with the natural world; to create “by transformation of the consciousness of individual people, a better world without war, without environmental destruction, a world of happy people”.
